Changing careers at 46 years old was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made, but choosing Salon Institute was one of the best decisions of my life.
From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt welcomed. The environment is so positive, encouraging, and full of energy. Every member of the administration and every instructor has been nothing short of amazing. They genuinely care about their students and want to see each of us succeed, both professionally and personally.
One of the unexpected blessings has been the relationships I’ve built with the other students. Most of them are around my children’s ages, and they have become like family to me. We laugh together, learn together, and support one another every step of the way.
If you are thinking about a career in the beauty industry, I encourage you to come in and experience the atmosphere for yourself. After spending ten years working in retail, I was finally able to pursue my dream of attending cosmetology school. Once I began researching programs in Central Ohio, the Salon Institute quickly became my top choice because of their curriculum and the opportunity to study abroad. I absolutely fell in love with the school the moment I toured it. I enrolled in the 1,500-hour program and am now licensed in hair, skin, and nails.
My experience at the Salon Institute was incredible—I learned so much during my time there. I even had the opportunity to travel to NYC to train under experienced professionals and attend a class at Makeup Forever’s Pro Academy.
While in school, I built a clientele and decided to go out on my own once I graduated and became licensed. Since then, I’ve worked in two salons. In the second, I started out renting a room and eventually became the owner. Since taking ownership, I’ve been able to renovate the space and create an inviting, relaxing environment for both clients and tenants. Today, I’m proud to have wonderful tenants, an incredible clientele, and a beautiful salon.
I couldn’t have accomplished any of this without the support of Brittanie and the incredible instructors I had during my time at the Salon Institute. Whenever I meet someone interested in cosmetology, I always recommend checking out the Salon Institute here in Columbus, OH.

They were always there when I had a question or just needed someone to talk to. By the time I was done in the classroom and was on the clinic floor I felt prepared and confident. The atmosphere was amazing and that was initially what got me interested in the school. Besides learning cosmetology and growing as a cosmetologist, I grew as a person. I wouldn’t change the time I had at school.

I am a fellow graduate, working full time in a salon that I absolutely love and am so thankful for— and I wouldn’t of known about the job opportunity if it wasn’t for them. They care about your education, your future …YOU. I do recommend doing the program that teaches hair, skin, and nails. If you’re going to invest, invest in the most education that’s going to add to your skill level. Learning this trade did not come naturally for me but it has always been instilled in my heart that I wanted to be a cosmetologist. I wanted to help people feel and look their absolute best! With the support of my educators, and staff of the school (and of course my family) somehow I managed to push through and graduate and am doing what I love! THANK YOU for everything.
